Goodbye Dear Friend
This has not been easy... After a two year battle with degenerative myelopathy my Blu's back end has called it quits. This guy has been my prince for many years. He has touched so many lives (human and animal). Friday he was put to sleep at my vet's office. He went with dignity and I will miss him everyday. Griffin and I are beginning a new phase of our relationship. He misses the big guy too, but we are now getting better walks and some training into our lives. It is a relief. The decision has been made and now we deal.
For the record, Blu just turned 10. I first met him at 3 months at an adoption event. Picked him up at six months from Wisconsin German Shepherd Rescue in Appleton. He was a genetic time bomb. Bad hips, elbows, neck problems, feet were too long, splayed, arthritis. This dog is a perfect example of what backyard breeders can do to ruin a dog, but he was the best dog EVER! Sweet as can be, loved his peoples and his dog friends. Barked his hello to every visitor. Sang with his dog buddies. Loved his frisbee games. Loved going in the van. For the last five years he has never been on a leash - didn't need it, he just wanted to be with his pack.
Did a search of my harddrive for photos of my guy and had 210 hits. Clearly a well photographed dog. He helped me convert 17 dogs to adoptability with his mentoring.
Blu loved his people food. For his last super he had Matt's Chocolate Chip cookies. Godspeed BooBoo!
